Common questions

GHRP-2 — questions, answered plainly.

6 research-context questions about GHRP-2. Answers stay neutral and reference what is published in the peer-reviewed literature — no dosing, no human-use guidance, no extrapolation beyond what the cited studies report.

  1. 01

    What is GHRP-2?

GHRP-2 (also called pralmorelin) is a synthetic six-residue growth hormone-releasing peptide. It binds the GHS-R1a (ghrelin) receptor and is used in Japan as a diagnostic agent for growth hormone deficiency testing.

  2. 02

    What is pralmorelin?

Pralmorelin is the international non-proprietary name for GHRP-2. The Drugs R&D registry entry (PMID 15230633) summarises its identification across the synonyms GHRP-2, pralmorelin, GPA-748, KP-102.

  3. 03

    Is GHRP-2 FDA-approved?

No. Pralmorelin / GHRP-2 is approved in Japan for diagnostic GH-deficiency testing but is not FDA-approved in the United States and is not EMA-approved in the European Union.

  4. 04

What did the Bowers 1996 chronic-administration study show?

Bowers et al. 1996 (J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab, PMID 8887169) reported that chronic GHRP-2 or GHRH administration in humans converted additive GH responses into synergistic responses across dose levels and frequencies.

  5. 05

Does GHRP-2 need the GHRH receptor to work?

Partly. Roh et al. 2002 (Endocrinology, PMID 11956179) used antisense knockdown of the GHRH receptor in rat pituitary cells and found that the GHRH receptor is essential for GHRH-induced GH secretion but only partially required for GHRP-2-stimulated secretion.

  6. 06

What are the limits of the GHRP-2 evidence?

Primary human evidence is largely from small pharmacology studies and analytical / detection methodology research. Long-term safety and efficacy outside diagnostic contexts have not been established in major peer-reviewed databases.
